Participants also get to explore a deeper understanding of the rhythm of the engagement and release of the two branches of the vagus affecting co-regulation and digestive functioning.

Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate how exploring the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating can be a reparative and co-regulating process for clients when providers offer relationally-based somatic practices.

  2. Practice somatic applications of polyvagal theory that are invitational and developmental to recognize how oppositional movements support the processes of developing autonomy and individuation as well as digestive functioning.

  3. Describe how deprivation and restriction align with dorsal vagal Shut-down and how relationally based somatic practices that affect the rhythmic engagement and release of the ventral and dorsal branches of the vagus can help promote the nervous system state Rest & Digest.

    Caroline Gebhardt, LPC, RYT, RSME/T

    Caroline Gebhardt, is a licensed professional counselor, certified Chi for Two® embodiment coach/trainer, registered yoga teacher & somatic movement therapist and educator. Caroline’s trauma training, decades of experience as a movement educator & expertise in eating disorders and early eating/feeding rhythms from an attachment-based lens contributed to her co-developing Chi for Two, a mindful embodiment method.

    Working in various levels of care for eating disorders treatment deepened her understanding of the need for more trauma-informed and relational approaches for sustainable bodily functioning and relational nourishment.

  • Nicole Mareno, PhD, RN, Owner & Consultant Registered Nurse & Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor Nurture Consulting, LLC

    Nicole Mareno, PhD, RN

    Nicole’s specialization is behavioral approaches to managing eating disorders, OCD, and body image concerns. She is passionate about helping her clients get “unstuck” from behavioral patterns that negatively impact their mental health and well-being. Using a whole-person and trauma-informed approach, Nicole incorporates her medical, nutritional, and psychological knowledge as she partners with her clients to meet their individual challenges, goals & needs.

    Nicole is currently training to become a Chi for Two® embodiment practitioner, and will incorporate these practices while exploring the nuanced dance of relationships with her clients.
